Remember this

The lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with gladness, he will quiet you by his love, he will exult over you with loud singing. Zephaniah 3: 17

Support an Ugandan Adoption!

I love following this  blog. It's actually the blog that encouraged me to look into adopting from foster care. There are many blogs about adoption, but few foster care adoption. This blog is an awesome look into the foster care adoption scene. Well now they are adopting from Uganda. And since I don't have the extra money to spend on a new sweeper right now I thought I would share their video with you guys! It looks like an awesome product, and a great way to help an orphan come home! So check out the video and visit their blog!

I am also linking up at A mommy's blog design today for a You Like Me Friday Blog Hop!! If you are visiting my blog from the blog help welcome!! And we would love for you to follow our family's journey!

Supporting and Understanding the Adoptive Family

I read this post through an email I received today. And just had to share it.

Since our family is in the adoption process I have been reading up on all the different ways to properly attach, what to do when first getting home, proper ways to include family members.... This post is an awesome one to send to your friends and family via email. Or even just to share on your Facebook page! Check it out. It includes things like,

 Please don't feed our kids.

Please don't try to get our child to like you the most.

Attachment takes time and work.

And,

Our new additions are not celebrities....

Open Adoption Blog Hop #1

Open adoption bloggers is having a blog hop! I am a little late. But looked fun, so I couldn't pass it up!  The question is......

What is your favorite room/spot/piece of art in your home and why?

My favorite was hard to pick. I have so may. And have done a lot of new decorating lately.
But I had to choose the Mort Kunstler hanging in my living room. The art itself, I actually don't really like. I would have never chosen a civil war painting for my living room on my own accord. I would have probably went with something more modern. But the story behind it is why it's my treasure. This painting actually was given to my brother as a Christmas gift from my parents. He had moved into his own place, and really wanted this painting. When he heard that artist was coming to town to sign the prints he wanted it even more. And convinced my parents that if they would buy the print he would pay the price for the framing. They agreed and my mom took him to the signing and now it's a memory she loves to talk about. When my brother was killed in a motorcycle accident, this was one of the things my parents gave to me to remember him by. So even though it's not my style, and doesn't really match my living room. It's the centerpiece.

For those who are waiting

One thing for sure, the waiting part of adoption is hard. Some of you may even have more things in your life that you have been waiting for. Maybe it's for you to hear your calling from God, maybe it's a promise you have been waiting on, or a house, job, child... we all need encouraged in our wait. So take the time to read these verses, and let them  help you as you continue to wait on what God has in store.

Hebrews 6:15
And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Psalm 27:14
Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

Psalm 40:1
I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry

Isaiah 40:31 But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

 Psalm 27: 13-14
I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord

Psalm 33:20-22 Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.

Psalm 130:5-6 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.

Yet another homesudy update....

Ok so I don't know if anyone's home-study in the whole history of mankind  has taken as long as our is!!!! It's crazy!!

Just got an email from our case worker, and after the last home-study visit in October, turns out they want MORE paperwork.

I guess the last social worker forgot to ask for it or something. But also on top of that they want to do one more home visit before we are done!!! The other one was supposed to be our last. I certainly don't mind doing it, but at the same time I am a little frustrated with how long this is taking.

on a positive note. I got to see pictures on a friends Facebook page, of them meeting their little girl in China. :) That's what all this work is for. I know it will be worth it in the end.

New Compassion Child

Yesterday when we checked our mail there was a surprise waiting for us!

I had forgotten that a few weeks ago Compassion International had put up a request on Facebook , looking for some correspondence sponsors for 300 kids. These kids were already sponsored financially but needed someone to write them letters. I had forgotten all about it until I saw the package in the mail. The kids are super excited to have a new buddy to write to!

Let me now introduce you to our new compassion child.... MARC he is from Rwanda. Which will be fun to do some learning about.

Isn't he cute? We can't wait to get to know him

We also got an updated picture of our little Febiana from Haiti, a few months ago. I never put the picture up so here it is... she looks like she has gotten herself some attitude. :)

If you have never sponsored a child, I would definitely recommend it. It's so much fun writing letters back and forth and just seeing them grow. And its a great way to reach out to those less fortunate.

Matthew 25:40    "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Families needed for waiting babies!!!!

Saw this post on Spence-Chapin....Come on homestudy!!!!!!! We were told it should only be a few more weeks until we get it to review.

Thought I would share this...please pass it on to friends looking to adopt!!

Spence-Chapin currently has a number of children in care whose birthmothers report heavy alcohol consumption during pregnancy.  These babies are of varying ethnicities, all with high risk of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
If your family would be interested in adopting a child with FASD, please submit an ASAP Pre-Application form and forward a copy of your current home study to asap@spence-chapin.org.
We will be contacting families in the next few weeks as we work to find permanent, loving families for these infants.

My One Word

Every year for probably the past three years now, I have chosen one one to focus on and pray about. It has changed my life.

The first year my word was  DEEPER. I wanted a deeper walk with God.

The second year it was MORE. This is when God started talking to me about adotion, and other things like taking care of the poor, reaching out, witnessing....

Third year was TRUST. We all need more Trust in our lives.

This year my word is ENCOURAGE.

We all need encouragement, from ourselves, God and from those around us. Especially us mothers. We need encouraged in so many areas. So my prayer is that I will be a more encouraging woman, and that God will encourage me in the things I do.
Are any of you doing the one word for the year? If you are let me know about it!

Encouraging Their Dreams

One of the best things about home-school is how you can take your child's interests and really study them together. My son is in love with science, so we can go way deeper then the normal second grade science class would. In public school all the children are taught the exact same thing, with no regard to what they really love. If your child has a interest in something its a great opportunity to teach them all you can about that subject.

My daughter is in love with dolphins and has been for some time. She says that when she grows up she wants to be a dolphin trainer. Anything I teach her about dolphins she soaks right up. Right now we are starting to put together a folder about dolphins. If your child is into a certain animal this is a easy and cheap little project to put together. Just start by gathering some of those cheap little three ringed folders. Get on the internet and gather some facts about the animal the depending on the age of your child you can put together little work pages for them, have them draw the animal, maybe print out a coloring page, and put a fact on each page. When they are done they have a fun little notebook about their favorite animal!

Number one

Here it is post number one for the year 2013!!
First off I wanted to say that my comment section now is moderated. I have been getting trashy comments that have needed to be deleted, so figured this was would be best.

After a very long Christmas break i am excited to start homeschooling back up today. I pray that I can be just the teacher my children need, that I can help them learn about the things they love (one of the benefits about home-school).  While at the same time teaching them all the things they need to know, like reading, writing, and arithmetic. We have gotten a little behind in the school year, so it is time to really catch up!  This year I want to try and post more home-school posts. So if your interested in homeschooling or just curious, stop by and check them out. Also if you have any questions about homeschool feel free to ask them. I will try my best to answer them. I strongly believe that this is the calling God has given me. Not to be a "career" woman, who is meeting up to all the worlds expectations. But to be a woman that is dedicated to my family and schooling my children.

Follow us on our journey as i try to post more often about home-school and adoption!  :)
